Celebrating a Decade of Adventure: The Canyoning Company’s 10-Year Journey
This month marks a memorable milestone for The Canyoning Company—our 10th anniversary. Our journey began with a spark of inspiration when Ben and George, our founders, worked at a local Activity Centre. Their passion for canyoning took a defining turn during a trip to Switzerland. Adventure filled their days as they explored the stunning canyons with some experienced French friends.
An unexpected challenge forged their path when one of their French companions broke an ankle. Ben and George’s teamwork and quick response in safely getting their friend out of the canyon ignited their realization: they were becoming adept at canyoning, and it was time to take a leap into entrepreneurship.
In 2016, with little investment and a trusty pickup truck, The Canyoning Company was born—pioneering the first canyoning-specific business in the UK. Their dedication and passion paid off as they brought ICOpro into the UK. This international certification elevated the canyoning experience and set new standards, promoting professional and safe practices.
Over the years, our adventures have taken us far and wide. We’ve hosted international canyoning trips, exploring the breathtaking landscapes of Madeira, the French Pyrenees, and Ticino, Switzerland. Each journey enriched our experience and deepened our love for the sport. We’ve offered both recreational and professional trips, inviting enthusiasts and aspiring canyoning experts to explore canyons worldwide, thereby fostering a global community.
Furthering their commitment to canyoning education and accessibility, Ben and George founded V7 Academy, an online canyoning resource. V7 Academy has grown into a valuable platform offering comprehensive training materials and courses, making canyoning education accessible to enthusiasts worldwide. It serves as a bridge, connecting canyoning communities and enhancing skill development through digital learning.
Back in 2021, we proudly helped found the UK Canyoning Association, dedicated to developing the sport within the UK. Through writing syllabuses, delivering training, and hosting canyoning events, we have been instrumental in building a vibrant community. We continue to run the organisation, committed to fostering the growth of canyoning across the country.
As we celebrate this milestone, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has been part of our journey.
